This month, we feature news about a range of innovative creative health programmes including the establishment of a new Centre for Technology and the Body at King's and a study by King's researchers in collaboration with beauty salons to promote breast cancer awareness.

We also share a recent interview with Nikki Crane, Programme Lead for Arts, Health & Wellbeing at King’s on the founding and development of the Southwark Culture Health and Wellbeing Partnership, a cross-sector network of over 150 members addressing inequalities and health and wellbeing through culture.


A quick reminder that Creativity and Wellbeing Week is taking place from 15 – 21 May - this is your opportunity to take part and there are lots of ways to get involved. Creativity and Wellbeing Week is a national open festival and King’s is a partner. Award for Civic Arts Organisations 2023 recipients announced

Presented by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in partnership with King’s, 3 recipients were awarded in recognition of their work transforming their local communities' health and wellbeing through art and co-creation.

Beauty salons to work with King’s researchers to promote breast cancer awareness

During Children’s Mental Health Week, Newlands Academy celebrated the official opening of their new Be Well Hub. This was part of a wider King’s partnership with South London Listens (SLL) and Citizens UK to set up Be Well Hubs across local schools in Southwark and Lambeth.

New centre examines the relationship between techonology and the body

Launched as part of the new Digital Futures Institute at King’s, research at the Centre for Technology and the Body will explore the significance of technologies and how they impact on the ways we live, look, and experience the world around us.

The arts in public health policy: progress and opportunities

Research published in The Lancet explores global progress towards realizing the potential of the arts for public health. The study presents examples of arts and health policy development selected from a scoping review of 172 global policy documents.

Vision Paper: Culture, Health and Wellbeing

The Centre for Cultural Value explores the value and impact of culture in relation to health and wellbeing in this paper. Their findings suggest several ways strategic investments in culture, health and wellbeing research could support the roll-out and scale-up of successful interventions.
